MARIN AAUW SECTIONS ARE OPEN TO ALL

Members of the Marin Branch of AAUW are welcome to join any of the branch interest groups listed here. You may also attend most of these groups for one or two meetings as a guest in order to see if it suits your needs. Just call the section leader to confirm time and place. 

New sections are always welcome. If you have an idea for an interest group, call Sections Vice President Dottie Burk at 383-4823 to see how to get underway.


LANGUAGES AND ARTS

READING ARTS AM Meets in members’ homes on 1st Monday at 10 AM.  Reads and discusses an author and a book of fiction or non—fiction, usually a contemporary work. Section Leader is Joan Hersko (492-2656)

READING ARTS PM  Meets on the 4th Wednesday at 7:30 PM in members’ homes.  Reads and discusses modern and classic books, as recommended and voted upon by current members. Section Leaders are Ann Jessup        (461-6078) and Judy Ryan (883-1028).

JOAN B. SINNA READING GROUP  Meets 3rd Wednesday at 9:30 AM in members’ homes. .   This group reads and discusses in depth the works of one author each year. And this year will read works of Graham Greene.  Section Leader is Dorothy Kilian (924-2648)

PLAY READING .  Meets the 2nd Friday at 9:30 AM.  $30/year for scripts. Chair is Florence Garvie (388-6825).

DAY BOOKS.  Meets 3rd Tuesday 10 AM to 12 Noon.  One member gives a book review. Group reads varied types of books. Chair is Natalie Whittlesey (383-8638).

EVENING BOOKS.  Meets 4th Thursday at 7:30 PM at Habitat Books, 205 Second Street, Sausalito. Reads fiction and non-fiction books, usually contemporary. Chair is Sharon Levien (383-2135).

THE FUTURES OF WOMEN. Meets 3rd Wednesday at 7 PM in members' homes. Reading and discussion group focusing on women’s issues, past, present and future.  Section Leader is Kathy McCaffrey (492-1727).

ART INTEREST GROUP. This group, open to all branch members, plans visits to museums or art galleries, for example to see a special exhibit at the deYoung or Legion of Arts. Members car pool and pay for their own admission and may have no-host lunches at a nearby café following the visit. Section Leader is Gerrie Young (461-3222).

   

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

AAUW/MARIN COUNTY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS.   Members who are interested in volunteering in any of Marin County’s public schools are invited to call Joan Flood at 457-5623.   

RECREATIONAL AND SOCIAL

BRIDGE.  Several different sections, day and evening, ladies and couples, regular and duplicate. 

1st Tuesday AM: Bonnie Casassa (457-6501)

2nd Wednesday AM: Rosemary Ring (461-2511)

3rd Thursday AM: Betty Jennings (472-0359)

CRAFTS. Meets 2nd Tuesday afternoon. Personal craft projects including knitting, jewelry making, scrapbooking, quilting.  All skill levels welcome. Section Leaders: Mary Mossteller (924-3096) and Judy Ryan (883-1028).

POKER. Meets 4th Fridays at 7:30 PM in members’ homes. You needn’t be a pro to join this group!  All levels welcome. Section Leader: Dee Skore (472-1072)

HIKING ADVENTURES. Meets every Thursday (weather permitting) at 9:00 AM for 4-5 hour hikes with elevation changes, anywhere from Mt. Tam to Pt. Reyes. Section Leader: Dee Skore (472-1072)

WEEKENDERS. Saturday or Sunday hikes for those who can’t go during the week.  Spouses are welcome. Section Leader: Dee Skore (472-1072)

GOLF. Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9 AM at McInnis Park course. Section Leader: Joyce Erlenbach  (491-1542)

FRIDAY FRIENDS. Meets for dinner the 2nd Friday, 7:30 PM, in members’ homes. One member chooses the entrée and others bring appropriate side dishes. Section Leaders are Pat Williams (472-0665) and Jillian Robinson (453-5854)
 

LUNCH  BUNCH.   Members have lunch at various restaurants on the 2nd Wednesday at 11:30 AM., October to June (except December).  Section Leaders: Diana Brown (453-3569) and Libby Byers (453-2148).

MEET ME AT THE MOVIES. Meets on 4th Tuesday evening for a movie followed by critique & social time over coffee, wine, dessert or whatever. Section Leaders are Susan Gilardi (924-1793) and Mary Mossteller (924-3096).

COOKING LIGHT.  Quarterly potluck dinners for members singly or with a guest. Section Leaders: Jeanne Lese  (492-8424)

BOARD GAMES. Meets third Fridays at 7:30 PM in members’ homes to play Scrabble, Clue, Trivial Pursuit or other board/card games members would like to try. Section Leader: Ann Thomas (924-9559)

WOMEN’S ISSUES. New group will research and discuss women’s issues, including reports published by AAUW. Meets 1st Wednesday, 6:30 PM. Find out more by calling Section Leader, Georgia Schall (898-2701)
